Madagascar’s La Compagnie Zolobe makes a big splash with Sakasaka, a family comedy for all ages
VERNON, BC— Joyful, silly, and… soaking wet! The Vernon & District Performing Arts Centre proudly presents La Compagnie Zolobe’s Sakasaka on Saturday, May 27 at 2:00PM as the final performance in the 2022-23 SPOTLIGHT Season’s Kids Series.
Sakasaka is a delightful comedy for all ages that will add joy to everyone’s day! Created by Madagascar’s La Compagnie Zolobe, Sakasaka means “thirsty” in Malagasy. Using only a mop, bucket and a few bottles of water, these three clowns take the audience on many hilarious adventures that gently and sincerely explore the preciousness of water.
“These clowns take the audience on some very unexpected journeys, including a Thriller dance tribute and a trip on the Titanic!” said Artistic Director Erin Kennedy. “It’s an absolute hoot for kids and parents alike.”
In the great tradition of slapstick clowns like The Three Stooges, La Compagnie Zolobe’s clown trio use physical comedy and body language to tell the story while staying completely silent. They are accompanied by two live musicians who play energetic tunes on traditional instruments such as the kabosy (a rectangular guitar) and djembe (drum). Malagasy dance and music complement the clowns’ physical comedy.
La Compagnie Zolobe has toured extensively, performing over 300 times across Madagascar, in Europe and Africa. They are currently on a tour of North America performing at festivals in the United States and Canada, including the Vancouver International Children’s Festival this Spring.
The Vernon & District Performing Arts Centre presents Sakasaka on Saturday, May 27 at 2:00PM. The show runs 50 minutes with no intermission and is suitable for all ages. Tickets are $12. For tickets, please call 250-549-SHOW (7469) or visit our 2022-23 SPOTLIGHT Season online at: www.vdpac.ca.
